Crossroads Care in Gloucestershire seeks new Trustee with legal expertise
Our charity supports unpaid family carers who are caring for a family member or friend. As a Trustee, you can help us develop the range of support we can offer to enable carers to continue with their valuable, yet often unacknowledged, role.
Our charity offers a range of services that enables the carer to enjoy a bit of “me” time in the knowledge that their loved one is in good hands. Coronavirus has been to the shock to society generally and carers have found themselves even more isolated than before as day centres and activities for the person being cared for have been severely restricted. However it has also given us an opportunity to think differently about what we do and how we do it.
To be a Trustee of an organisation is an exciting and fulfilling role. Each Trustee brings to the group their own unique skills and experience and the more diverse a Board can be the better. The Board is ultimately responsible for the safe and effective management of the service delivered so a Trustee can make a real difference and help shape the future direction of its services.
The Board usually meets ten times a year but this is very flexible and can and does meet more often at the moment. Meetings are currently held using Skype. Trustees are kept up to date with information about the current functioning of the charity as well as invited to share their views about future strategies for development. As a Trustee, you would be involved in the decision-making regarding the future direction of our charity.
Our charity has been rated as “Outstanding” by the Care Quality Commission and we are confident we can emerge stronger and even more effective in the future.
The Board is made up of a number of Trustees who have a range of different skills and life experiences. To compliment our skills base, we are looking for trustees who may have legal experience or are from a HR background. We are also looking for skills in fundraising – particularly in writing grant applications, and also marketing strategy – particularly around social media.
However, we must not lose sight of the fact that we are a charity and so we are looking for trustees who are committed to our cause and want an opportunity to improve the life experience of others.
We recognise that we need to add to our pool of Trustees and the skills they bring to strengthen our purpose and ensure the beneficiaries of our charity receive the best possible service tailored to their needs. We do not “manage” the charity, but set its direction with an eye on the future at all times. We must see the bigger picture and make decisions along the way. We are responsible, and to do this responsibly means we have to have trustees who are genuinely interested in the needs of carers and who really want to make a difference.
