The Commonwork Trust at Bore Place in Kent seeks new trustee with employment law background

Closing Date
25 June 2021
Bore Place, Kent
Time Commitment
Board meets 4 times a year

The Commonwork Trust, based at Bore Place in Kent, is seeking to expand our trustee team. We are actively looking for someone with a background in Human Resources, People Strategy or familiar with employment law, to join the existing team of seven trustees. We would also be interested to hear from those with other areas of expertise relevant to our field of work, with a passion for a better future for people and the planet.

Bore Place is at an exciting point in its development.  With a refreshed strategy to take us to our 50th year in 2026, good reserves and funding for development we are aiming to expand the work of the charity and welcome more people to Bore Place.  We have a strong management and staff team, and a committed Board who are all excited about the next phase in the growth and development of the Commonwork Trust.  We are therefore looking to grow the Board of Trustees at this important time for Bore Place.

Trustees meet formally four times each year. During normal times, we meet onsite at Bore Place (nr Sevenoaks and Tonbridge) and meetings generally last the whole day, including a lunch attended by all members of the Commonwork team. During the pandemic, we have continued to meet on Zoom, but with a slightly reduced agenda.

About us

Bore Place is an historic rural estate covering over 500 acres in Kent, on the edge of London. It was set up in 1976 with the vision to explore how to live and work sustainably, understanding and recognising the interconnectedness of the environmental, social, economic and political aspects of sustainability. We are situated in beautiful countryside with historic buildings, an organic dairy farm, food production and land management, woodland walks and trails, and diverse educational and learning experiences for people of all ages and abilities. All of this is underpinned by a drive and an ambition to inspire others to take action and make a difference based on our lived, real-world experience of sustainable and regenerative working and living.

Bore Place believes in a world where people and nature work together to regenerate the planet and ourselves.

Our mission is to enhance the planet in all that we do, to inspire people to live and work sustainably and lead a happy and full life. We will achieve this by inspiring people to connect with each other and with the earth, while taking responsibility for our shared future.
