Knife, gun and gang crime charity ‘Through Unity’ seeks new Trustee – legal expertise welcomed

We are looking for trustees who can help to direct and steer the organisation to help it make strategic decisions and achieve overall business plan goals.

 

What will you be doing?

As well as the general competencies, it is helpful that candidates are also knowledgeable and experienced in one or more of the following key areas.

  • Financial Expertise: A recognised accounting qualification, and ability to scrutinise and probe financial reports, contracts etc.
  • Legal expertise, contracts, employment, not for profit experience / insights
  • HR Expertise: Experience in Human Resources management at a senior level ability to identify and advise on HR related risks.
  • Planning: Experience of strategic planning, project planning.
  • Commercial negotiating / sales experience and networking skills.
  • Experience and understanding of the context and social dimensions of the work of Through Unity in providing support to bereaved families and in seeking to address causes of knife crime

 

What are we looking for?

Leadership

Understanding and experience of business operations / management at senior levels and ideally will have been involved with early stage businesses in appropriate ways. Board experience in large and smaller companies. Taking a strategic view, visionary and being a team developer and networker.

Financial

Appropriate knowledge of business finance and banking, charity / not for profit organisations and general management. Strong contacts and network which could help Through Unity to find financial sponsors and advocates.

Desirable skills / knowledge:

  • Previous experience of being a Trustee of a Charity – at least for three years
  • Genuine interest in and knowledge of Through Unity; social support and Knife Crime
  • Track record in fund raising with connections to sources of finance – such as Trusts etc.
  • Substantial network connections in areas related to Social work, Law enforcement, criminology / knife crime
  • Time available to focus on Trusteeship – at least one or two days per month
  • Flexibility to travel to meetings
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to listen, curious, willing to learn new sector knowledge
