Kingston Charitable Foundation seeks a new Trustee from a legal background

Closing Date
31 December 2021
Kingston / online
Time Commitment
1 day a month

Kingston Charitable Foundation are looking for trustees to join our existing team of 6 trustees.

The Trustees of Kingston CF are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the charity and for overseeing and supporting its implementation.  The role of a Kingston CF Trustee includes the following:

  • Giving clear direction, leadership, guidance, and advice to the Kingston CF staff.
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of Kingston CF and acting as an ambassador for the charity.
  • Providing vision, inspiration and support to the Kingston CF staff.
  • Ensuring effective and efficient administration of the charity.
  • Ensuring the financial stability of Kingston CF.
  • Appointing staff as needed and monitoring their performance.
  • Using specific skills, knowledge, or experience to help the Board of Trustees to reach sound decisions.

The role would include, reading board papers prior to Board meetings and contributing to or leading discussions in these meetings.  There would also be scope to act as a board champion for a particular area of Kingston CF work, identifying and focusing on key issues and guiding new initiatives.

The Board currently meets bi-monthly with the aim to move to quarterly later in 2021. At present these meetings are held virtually, in the evenings, and typically last around an hour.

Most of our work outside of Board meetings is carried out through three Subgroups: Marketing, Donor, and Operations.  These meet more frequently, typically monthly and support the Kingston CF staff with hands-on activity where necessary. The time commitment varies from Subgroup to Subgroup (and depending on the availability of the individual Trustee) but would not normally exceed the equivalent of one day per month.

All Trustees are expected to participate in at least one Subgroup as well as attending the full Trustee Board meetings.  There are currently 7 Trustees, and the aim is to have up to 10; this would ensure each Subgroup can be adequately resourced, and nobody is overloaded.

We are specifically looking to recruit Trustees with the following career backgrounds, Financial, HR and Legal.  We are also looking for Trustees that can speak additional languages to assist us with our community reach.

The Trustee role reports directly to the Chair of the Board of Trustee.

What are we looking for?

Kingston Charitable Foundation is looking for trustees with a variety of skills and a can-do personality.  Experience in the 3rd sector is not necessary, but we are looking for transferrable private or public sector skills.
