The Hawk and Owl Trust is a National UK Charity founded in 1969. It is dedicated to conserving owls and birds of prey in the wild – and increasing knowledge and understanding of them.

The Hawk and Owl Trust Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, and the development of values, goals and objectives in line with the Trust’s governing document.

The Board is not operational. The day to day operations is carried out and overseen by the Chief Operations Director, who is also a member of the Board.

The Board currently consists of nine Trustees, elected by the Trust’s membership. Each year, one-third of the elected Trustees are required to stand for re-election at the Annual General Meeting.

The current Board consists of individuals with varied professional backgrounds and different skill sets. As part of the Trust’s governance process, an audit of current Trustees’ skills is carried out annually.

What are we looking for?

We will welcome anyone who feels they can contribute to the Board and the Trust, although the results of the 2021 audit make it clear that the Board would be particularly strengthened by the addition of new Trustees who have the following skill sets:

  • Scientific knowledge – relating to Bird of Prey
  • Governance
  • Legal
  • Volunteer management
  • Education
