New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich seeks new Trustee with legal expertise

Closing Date
28 November 2022
Time Commitment
4 board meetings a year + sub-committee commitments

New Wolsey Theatre (NWT) is a registered charity and we are currently looking for three directors (trustees) and a chair. We want individuals who can bring insights from a broad range of experience and backgrounds to enhance the skills of current Directors.

NWT is a much-loved charity with a mission to create, develop and produce vital and dynamic theatre that achieves the highest quality, maximum diversity and greatest accessibility. NWT produces and presents live performance and delivers creative engagement for the communities of Ipswich, Suffolk and the wider region. It remains in a healthy financial position. As a not-for-profit organisation we rely on a blend of income streams; funding from the Arts Council, Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council as well as donations, individual giving and corporate support, all of which are invaluable.

We’d love applications from people of all backgrounds, especially from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds, those who identify as deaf and disabled people, neurodiverse people, members of the LGBTQIA+ community and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Our board needs to be representative of the community we serve.

We are up for exploring support and development needs and will make reasonable adjustments to enable applicants to participate in the selection process, and for the successful applicant to carry out their role.

You don’t need to have been a Trustee before, if you are interested in joining the NWT board of directors we would love to hear about you and your skills and experiences, wherever you have gained them.

We’re particularly interested in seeking applications from people who have experience in any of the following:

  • Accountancy and finance management
  • Business management
  • Data systems and IT
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Fundraising
  • Legal
  • Running a cultural organisation

Perhaps you have skills, abilities, and experience we haven’t mentioned. We would be interested to hear about them.

There are four Board meetings each year. Meetings are generally held at the theatre in Ipswich from 5.30pm to approximately 7pm. Any expenses incurred to attend a meeting will be reimbursed. There is also the option to join a meeting via Zoom if you cannot make it in person.

There are also Sub-committee meetings you could be invited to attend four times a year, special events or functions focused around artistic activity, such as community events, opening nights, supporters events and corporate entertaining.
