Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank seeks new Trustee with legal expertise

Closing Date
16 December 2022
Time Commitment
4-6 hours a month

Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank is at an exciting stage of development, and we are looking for three Trustees to join our committed Board of Trustees.

We have undergone a transformation over the last two years, and we are now broadening and deepening our contact points with the local community. This includes plans for a social supermarket. We are also, with our Pathfinder programme, pioneering new ways to help our clients on a sustainable path to self-sufficiency.

About the role:

Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, working with the Chief Executive to develop our aims, objectives, and goals in accordance with our governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

With the rest of the Board of Trustees, your general responsibilities will include developing the Foodbank’s strategy and its implementation, governance, oversight of finances, charity effectiveness and being an active and sympathetic contributor to discussions.

We would particularly welcome the following skills and experience:

•    Finance, preferably a qualified Accountant, who can oversee the preparation of our annual accounts and has experience in managing budgets and forecasts. We have an in-house bookkeeper who prepares financial documentation, accounts, and budgets etc.
•    Legal, with experience of English law to provide common sense support (not legal advice) for the Chief Executive, in responding to varied forms of legal documentation
•    Marketing and social media, to help develop our strategy in Hammersmith and Fulham and to liaise with our in-house resource to develop and disseminate high-level messaging.

We are determined to define a future without the need for Foodbanks and that means maximising all the current local provision, involving our service users in designing other ways we can support individuals and influencing policy where we see it failing. As a team we work hard, succeed, and celebrate. If you feel you can add value and positivity to our organisation, then apply as soon as you can.

You will have a strong personal commitment to the Foodbank’s vision and values. Whether you are an experienced Trustee or taking your first step as a Trustee, we would love to hear from you. You will have the opportunity to use your skills, passion, and commitment to help shape the future of our charity and to improve the lives of people in our local community.

Further details:

Location: Remote, with attendance at both in-person and virtual meetings.
Time commitment: Up to four to six hours per month, to include taking part in Trustee Board meetings and being involved in occasional projects. We meet at least four times a year as a Board and Trustees will be expected to participate in one of the sub-committees that are being formed.

Requirements: An Enhanced Criminal Records check is required for this role as we work with vulnerable people in society.

Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank is an Equal Opportunities employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all Trustees, staff and volunteers. We serve a diverse part of London, and we are seeking to increase the diversity of our Board. We would welcome applications from local residents, people with disabilities, people with caring responsibilities, people of faith, people from ethnic minorities, and people of all ages. Previous experience of governance is not essential.
