The Co-operative Group is seeking to appoint a Member Nominated Director (MND) – a unique board opportunity. If you are, or you know someone who this would be of interest to (and importantly, who meet MND eligibility: Co-op member for at least 3 years and points of over 1,000) within your networks we would be delighted to hear from you/them.

The Co-op was founded in 1844 to make a difference for local communities when times were hard. Today their purpose is more relevant than ever – they’re owned not by shareholders or wealthy individuals, but by 4.6 million members who all have a say in how the business is run.

As a Member Nominated Director, you’ll be a voice for Co-op members in the boardroom, working closely with the National Members’ Council by attending Council meetings, taking part in Q&As and listening to the views of members from across the UK. As members and shared owners of the business, the Co-op Board of Directors works together to oversee their commercial and financial performance, and make sure Co-op’s unique values and principles are front and centre in everything they do.

The Co-op is committed to equality and inclusion and is proud of how diverse their Board is, but they recognise they need to do more to eliminate the inequalities that currently exist within the Co-op and the wider world too. So, they’re looking for applicants who are keen to play their part in this.

To be considered for the role, you’ll need to be a Co-op Member with proven board experience. It’s important you can demonstrate real commercial acumen and an appreciation of the strategic challenges that come with a large, complex business like the Co-op. A commitment to the co-operative values is also essential.

If you’re selected as a candidate, you’ll take part in an election in which Co-op members will vote. If you’re elected, you’ll be appointed after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May 2023.

This year, there is one Member Nominated Director seat up for election. This influential position is only open to Co-op members, who can demonstrate spend evidenced via points (1,000+).

If you have the experience and qualities we seek, we would like to hear from you.

For more information about the opportunity and/or confidential discussion and how to apply, please contact Warren Partners at coopMND@warrenpartners.co.uk or on 0845 261 0600.  Warren Partners has been chosen as the Co-op’s professional search adviser throughout this process.
